About Hayward

Hayward began to take modern form in 1851 when William Hayward bought 40 acres of land from the region's original settler, Guillermo Castro. William Hayward influenced the construction of roads and built a post office, a store, and a resort hotel that attracted settlers and tourists alike. The city was incorporated in 1876 and continued to flourish with the surrounding agriculture industry. Today Hayward is one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the nation, where people from many cultures live and work together to build a community reflective of its residents.

Diverse City

Hayward is a city of diversity. Diverse people, diverse regions, and diverse amenities. In the hills you'll find old and new homes, along with a slower pace as the area opens up to a natural landscape. Below lies a bustling community with a historic downtown surrounded by new high-density housing, ethnic restaurants and businesses, and a new cinema currently under construction.
